MP3/ WMA files are prepared, then wr itten to a CD-R or

files/fo lders (inc ludin g Root Fo lders), an d the maximu m nu mber
of folders is 255.

Files are playe d back in the order that the writing software writ es
them to the disc. The refo re, the playback order ma

documentat ion. The play back order of the fo lders an d files is as

Bit rate
This is the “sound” compression rate specified for en coding. The
higher the bit rate, the high er the sound qu ality, b ut also th e larger
the files.
Sampling rate
This value shows how many times pe r second the d ata is sampled
(recor ded). F or example, music CDs use a sampling
rate of 44.1 kHz,
so the sound is s ampled (recorded) 44,100 times per second . The
higher the sam pling rate, the higher the sound qualit y, but also the
larger the volume of data.
Encoding
Converting music CDs, W A VE (AIFF) files, and other sound fi les into
the specified audio com pression format.
T ag
Song information such as track tit les, artist names, al bum names,
etc., written int o MP 3/WMA files.
Root folder
The root folder (or root dir ectory) is found at the top of the file
system. The root
folder contains all folders and files. It is created
automatically for all burned discs.

Inserting Discs Y our playe r accep ts only one disc at a time for playbac k. Do not
attempt to load mo re than one disc.
Make sure the label si de is facing up when you insert the disc.
Pla yin g a disc while dr iving on a very bumpy road may result in
skips, but this will no t scratch the disc or damage the player.
New Discs T o p revent the CD fr om jamm ing, the L CD is displayed as error if
discs with ir regula r sur faces are inserte d or if d isc s are inse rted
incor rec tly . When a n ew disc is ejected imm ediate ly afte r in itia l
loading, use your finger to fee l around the insid e of th e cen tre hole
and outs ide edge of t he disc . If you feel any sma ll bumps or
irregularities, this could in hibit proper loadi ng of the disc. T o
remov e the bumps, rub the inside edge of the hole and outside edge
of the disc with a ballpoint pen or other such instrume
nt, then insert
the disc again.
Irregular Shaped Discs Be sure to use round shape discs only for thi s unit and never use
any spec ial shape discs .
Use of special shape di scs may cause da mage to the mech anism.
Installation Location Make sure this unit will not be installed in a locati on subjected to:
• Direct sun an d hea t
• High humidity and water
• Exces sive dus t
• Exces sive vi bratio ns
Correct Handling Do not drop the di sc while handling. Hol d the disc so you w ill not
leave fi ngerprints on the surf ace. Do not affix tape, paper, or
gummed labels to t he disc. Do not write o n the disc.
Disc Cleaning Fingerp rints, du st, or soil on the sur face of the disc co uld ca use the
CD player to skip. For ro uti ne cleaning, wipe t he pl aying surf ace
with a clea n, so f t cl oth from the cen tre of the disc to the outer edge.
If the sur face is he avily soi led, dampe n a clea n , soft clo th in a
solution of mild neutral detergent before clean ing the disc.
Disc Accessories There are various acces sories available on the market for protec tin g
the disc sur face and improving sou nd qua lit y . However , most of
them wil l influence the th ickn ess and/ or di ameter of the disc. Using
such accessories can cause the di sc to be out of standard
specifi cat ions and may cr eate op eration al probl ems. W e
rec ommen d not usi n g these acces sories on disc s played in Alpine
CD pl ayers.

About MP3/WMA What is MP3?
MP3, whose offic ial name is “M PEG-1 Au dio Layer 3,” is a
compr essi on standard prescr ibed by the ISO, the International
Stan dardization Or ganization and MPEG which is a joint activity
instit ution of the IEC.
MP3 files conta in com presse d au dio data. MP3 encoding is
capab le of compressing au dio data at ext remely high ra tios,
reduc ing the size of mus ic files to as much as one -tenth thei r
origi nal siz e. This is achieved whil e still ma inta inin g near CD
qua lit y. The MP 3 form at r ealis es such high compr ession r atios
by eliminat ing the soun ds that are eithe r inau dible to the human
ear or ma
sked by other soun ds.
What is WMA?
WMA, or “Win dows Me dia™ Au dio,” is com pres sed aud io data.
WMA is simi lar to MP 3 au dio data an d can ach ieve CD quality
soun d with small file sizes .
Method for crea ting MP3/WMA file s
Audio data is co mpres sed using soft ware wit h MP3/WMA
cod ecs. F or deta ils on creatin g MP3/ WMA files, refe r to the
user’s manua l for that softwa r e.
MP3/WMA files that are playabl e on this dev ice ha ve the
file exten sio ns “mp3” / “ wm a” Fi les with no extens ion
cannot be playe d bac k (WMA ver . 7-9 are su pporte d). Pr otected
files are not supporte d.

If an MP3/WM A file contains ID3 tag/WM A tag informati on,
the ID3 tag/WMA tag information is displ ayed (e.g., song name,
artist name, and album na me). All other tag dat a is ignored.
About “T ext”
Te xt:
T ext com pati ble CDs contain te xt info rmat ion such as the disc
name and track name. Such text info rmat ion is refe rred to as
“text.”
• Some characters may not be di splayed correctl y wit h this device,
depending on the character type.
• “NO TEXT” is displ ayed if text information ca nnot be displayed o n
this unit.
• The text or tag information may not be correctl y displayed,
depending on the contents.

Connect a portab le music player, etc. by sim ply connect ing it to the
input on the front panel. An optional adapter cable is requir ed (standard
